Nemmeno oggi posso andare a prendere lo scooter perchè non appena arrivo in dogana mi comunicano che ieri era il compleanno del Re pertanto nemmeno oggi lavorano, quindi dovrò ritornare domani.

DOVE GIUNGERE: Nuove spore

La destinazione finale è stata spostata dal Tajikistan all’Australia e prevedo di compiere il tutto in altri 6-7 mesi.

Spore dal passato

Partii il 28 marzo da Carbonera, Treviso. Fortuna che c’era il sole in quel giorno ad assistermi perchè poi, per più di un mese l’acqua è stata la mia seconda compagna di viaggio. Le prime scoperte di queste terre così vicine all’Italia e già così sconosciute se non per i loro lati peggiori: 20 giorni in Serbia e 20 giorni in Romania mi fanno capire che le cose è meglio vederle con i proprio occhi. Molto meglio.

Poi arriva l’idea di aggiungere una seconda sfida, il Guinness World Record per la “maggior distanza compiuta con uno scooter 50cc” e il sigillo iniziale avviene a Shumen, in Bulgaria, nella città natale della mia ospite numero 1, Bogy. E nemmeno in Bulgaria mi rubano le ruote, ma anzi mi diverto moltissimo tra rose, vodka e leggende di un commercio d’armi oscuro.

La Turchia è grandissima e il mio transito avviene con lo spuntare dell’estate. Non è ancora alta stagione mi dicono tutti, ma le coscie rosse e il sudore misurabile in litri mi dicono il contrario. Quanto patrimonio artistico e quanto bellezze naturali ed un innamoramento terminato con la dura realtà di vedere uno stato che è veramente differente dall’Ovest all’Est.

Poi il Caucaso, con il cibo, il vino, l’ospitalità e gli scenari magnifici della Georgia: cosa non ha questo stato? L’Armenia visitata con gli amici Chris e Jesse, dimora di così tanti monasteri che ne ho perso il conto. L’Azerbaijan, tre giorni in viaggio in scooter e nulla più e le emozioni che ho ricevuto in questo stato ci starebbero in un telegramma.

La svolta avviene con il mio arrivo in nave in Kazakhstan dopo aver attraversato il Mar Caspio: due volte sono passato per il nono stato più grande al mondo però entrambre le volte di sfuggita, non abbastanza per imparare se hanno mantenuto qualche valore della vita nomade. L’Uzbekistan con la sua contradditorietà, la morsa politica e sebbene ciò delle persone straordinarie. Il Tajikistan, meta iniziale di quuesto mio viaggio tramutatosi in una tappa, ma non una a caso, bensì una delle migliori: qui veramente l’ospitalità traduce in fatti. Il Kirghizistan, capre, belle donne, autodistruzione e Bishkek e una voglia di ritornare per verificare se veramente non c’è altro.

Spore d’attualità

Non poteva un permesso negatomi dalla Cina fermarmi: io non volevo e questo era sufficiente. Era però un’ostacolo che mi avrebbe ostacolato la vita, costringendomi ad utilizzare altre mezzi per evitare la Repubblica Popolare Cinese.

Venerdì insieme io e Scooty abbiamo preso l’aereo, io come passeggero e lui in stiva come cargo, destinazione Bangkok, Tailandia.

Era una soluzione che avevo iniziato a vagliare subito dopo essere arrivato ad Osh, visto che le possibilità di entrare in Cina legalmente erano praticamente nulle, ed illegalmente troppo rischiose.

Così ora mi trovo qui, in un clima caldissimo (oggi 27°C), circondato da palme. Che sfiga ah?

Spore geografiche

Ho preparato un’itinerario di come mi muoverò per tutto il resto di questa seconda tranche di viaggio, anche se i cambiamenti non è certo impossibile che avvengano.

Quindi fra una settimana mi sposterò da Bangkok al Laos in scooter dove lo lascerò in qualche posto custodito per un paio di mesi. Perchè? Cina e Vietnam sono inacessibili con un mezzo straniero quindi dovrò muovermi in altra maniera. Entro il 23 dicembre entrerò in Cina e qui insieme all’amico Ture, gireremo in bici e treno la zona sud quindi indicativamente le regioni Yunnan, Sichuan e Guangxi e poi discesa in Vietnam con sosta di un paio di settimane a Hanoi. Il Vietnam lo girerò con qualche scooter o moto noleggiata in loco e vorrei scendere fino ad Ho Chi Minh city, la ex Saigon. Quindi il ritorno in Laos per riprendere Scooty e girare l’ex parte di Siam, quindi Luang Prabang e poi scendere verso sud in Cambogia dove c’è la gemma di Angkor Wat e una storia recente che voglio approfondire.

Dalla Cambogia ritorno in Tailandia, per esplorare Chiang Mai ed il nord per poi, evitando Bangkok, scendere giù verso la zona balneare dove farò per lo più l’ignorante e mi dedicherò alla balneazione. Dalle spiaggie thai passerò a quelle della Malesia, nel quale resterò entro la parte più di terraferma e quindi traghettare in Indonesia, dove salterò da isola a isola fino al Borneo dal quale prenderò l’ultima nave destinazione Darwin in Australia.

L’Australia ho intenzione di girarla in senso antiorario quindi procedendo verso la zona ovest, passando per Broome, scendere fino a Pert e poi compiere tutta la costa sud fino a Sydney e da lì risalire fino a nord-est, passando per la Gold Coast e terminare in Queensland, a Cairns.

Spore economiche

Se non avessi avuto l’aereo da prendere sarei stato in una botte di ferro e sicuramente sarei potuto arrivare in Australia con il resto del budget iniziale di 10.000€ che non avevo ancora speso. Purtroppo organizzare il cargo e pagare il mio volo mi è costato quasi 900€ ed ora ho 3700€ per altri 6-7 mesi di viaggio previsti. Considerato l’alto costo della vita in Australia, per far quadrare i conti dovrò essere più ligio sulle spese e cercare qualche sponsor che voglia finanziare il mio progetto.

Spore temporali

Considerato le tempistiche che ho tenuto sinora nei vari stati nel quale sono passato e l’interesse che ho di queste zone, prevedo di arrivare nel nord dell’Australia verso giugno-luglio 2011, quindi altri 7 mesi di viaggio.

Spore causali

Non sentivo che il viaggio dovesse venir terminato in Tajikistan tantomeno in Serbia pensavo di fermarmi “solo” in Asia centrale. Ho ancora una buona somma del budget rimasta, la voglia e l’interesse di scoprire zone nuove. Dopo sei mesi dal primo incontro, viaggerò ancora con Ture (www.tureadventure.it), chissà per quanto, ma entrambi avevamo voglia di reunirci e cambiare metodo di viaggio.

DOVE GIUNGERE: New spores

The final destination has been moved from Tajikistan to Australia and I estimate it will take me another 6-7 months of traveling.

Spores from the past

I left on the 28^th March 2010 from my city Carbonera near Treviso. Luckily it was a sunny day as I wouldn’t have had many for the imminent days to come. The initial discoveries took place in countries very close to Italy and already so unknown to the majority, apart from their inclination to throw a fight or a war whenever they felt it was the case: 20 days in Serbia and 20 days in Romania teach me that it is better to see things with your own eyes rather then believe the media blindly. Much better actually.

Then the idea of adding a new challenge my trip finalizes in Shumen, Bulgaria the native city of Bogy, my guest number 1. So from Shumen I would count the kilometers in order to break the existing record for the “longest journey on a 50cc scooter”. So it happens that even in Bulgaria nicks my wheels but I rather enjoy the cities very much surrounded by roses, vodka and legends of weapon smuggling.

Turkey is huge and my transit takes place when the summer is coming. Everybody tells me that it is not high season yet but my red legs and the amount of sweat would indicate the contrary. So much art and so many natural spectacular sceneries and a love with this land that fades more and more as I push myself East.

Then it was the turn of the Caucasus with the food, wine, hospitality and amazing mountainous landscapes of Georgia: what doesn’t this country have? I visited Armenia and its many monasteries with my friends Chris and Jesse. In Azerbaijan I was limited to three traveling days with the scooter and honestly a very little remained in me of this country and enough words to spend that could fit in a telegram

The real change happens with my arrival in Kazakhstan after having crossed the Caspian sea by ship: people with different facial features, steppe and twice I was in this country but still I couldn’t spend enough time to see if the nomadic lifestyle still exist somehow.

Uzbekistan with its contracting aspects and the political grip on everything but despite this I met many extraordinarily friendly people. Tajikistan, the final destination I set to myself when I departed was a true surprise: here hospitality really translates into facts. Kyrgyzstan: goats, beautiful women, self-destruction, Bishkek…and a strong willingness to return to see if there is also something that I missed.

Spores from the news

It was not possible that the Chinese authorities were the ones to stop my long journey but also I did not want to finish my traveling experience. So last Friday I flew with my scooter in the cargo of the plane towards Bangkok in Thailand.

It was a solution I started to investigate as I reached Osh because the possibilities to enter China legally were near to zero therefore I had to check other options.

So now there are 37°C and I am surrounded by palm trees. Unlucky uh?

Geographical spores

I prepared a sort of itinerary of what will happen in this second part of the “Dove giungere” project even though it is possible that I might modify it as I go.

In a week I will leave Bangkok with the scooter to go to Laos and there I will leave my vehicle for a couple of months as neither China nor Vietnam are accessible with a foreign vehicle. By the 23^rd December I have to enter China and here together with my friend Ture, I will probably visit the southern regions like Yunnan and Sichun with a bicycle to then cut into Vietnam, relaxing a couple of weeks in Hanoi. I would like to go until the south of Vietnam with a rented motorbike most likely to then come up again and divert into Laos to pick up my scooter and carry on with it. From here I will head south towards Cambodia, which has an interesting history and the magnificent Angkor Wat.

From Cambodia I will return to Thailand to explore the north and then “go-ignorant” chilling in the southern beaches. From the thai beaches I will then move to those in Malaysia where I will probably remain in the continental part and not the islands. Indonesia and the island hopping will come next until Borneo from where I will take a ship to Darwin in Australia.

My idea is to travel in Australia anti-clockwise therefore the West first so Broome then down to Perth and then all along the southern coast via Adelaide to Sydney, where I will squat at some friend’s houses (Cologne calling…).

From here I will go north to the Gold coast to then finish in Cairns and the amazing Queensland nature.

Financial spores

If I didn’t have to take the plane I would have been safe and arrive in Australia with the initial budget of 10,000€. But the organization of my flight and the shipping of Scooty took a big chunk of money I had left. Considering the high costs of Australia I will definitely have to save up considerably in the next months and search for some sponsor willing to help me financially.

Spores of time

Considering the timescale I had so far in visiting places and specifying that I have a lot of interest in Southeast Asia, I guess I will arrive in Northern Australia in June-July 2011 so another 7 months on the road.

Spores of reason

I just couldn’t finish it like that in Tajikistan and even when I was only in Serbia I was asking myself “Do I really want to travel only 5 months?”. I still have some budget left, the willingness and the curiosity to discover which are essential. I will travel for a while with my friend Ture in order to change and check how it is, to be two guys wandering.

Così sto trattando quel povero moribondo del mio scooter, galante come un pendolare il venerdì sera si ricorda di avere la fidanzata…

Ho tolto le due staffe che originalmente erano state saldate per supportare la gabbia portatanica. Ora infatti ho convertito in pianta stabile l’aggancio laterale a porta valigia rigida solida in ABS della Givi, super-durevole, supporto adesivi e vanti e indrio e su e zo e tin e ton… Morale: ho più spazio, ho ascoltato capofamiglia Torresan, ed ho fatto bene!

Ultimi giorni in quel di Carbonera (TV). Ieri ho fatto la conferenza stampa nel municipio di Carbonera con la presenza del sindaco e di un assessore, alcuni giornalisti e una folla gentilmente concessa alla sera a Santoro (Qui i suoi saluti…).

Il resoconto della porca figura sono qui, firmati rispettivamente da Xcittà con tanto di video e da Oggitreviso. Stasera alle 18.45 sarò intervistato su Caterpillar, programma in onda su RaiRadio 2 e domani dovrebbe uscire un articolo sulla Tribuna di Treviso.

In questi giorni ho trovato il sito www.everytrail.com, con il quale riuscirò ad allegare qui sul blog il tragitto compiuto nella giornata specifica e potrete anche controllare poliziottisticamente la mia velocità e come scalo arditamente montagne (e come smonto da esse, cioè con il motore spento. In Romania ho superingolfato lo scooter facendo così…). Ecco un esempio del tratto che feci lo scorso anno da Stavne a Uzhgorod in Ucraina e come apparirebbe:

Sono anche notevolmente affaticato, un po’ per l’apprensione e un po’ anche per la paura di dimenticare qualcosa di essenziale nella progettazione di questo viaggio.

Si avvicendano i saluti, l’unico con il quale rimanderò sino all’ultimo sono quelli con il mio gatto tigrato che persevera ad allontanarsi a 1000 all’ora appena mi vede a 15 metri.

“Caro gatto, io non mangio i tuoi topi, però tu mangi il mio cibo! E non è nemmeno colpa mia se ti ho amplificato la sindroma edipica preferendo quella pelosona di tua madre…e scusami se ti chiamo gatto nonostante tu sia una femmina, ma di questi tempi c’è gran confusione anche questo. Quindi denunciami pure, sappi che prima del terzo grado non mollerei…”

Una settimana fa sono stato contattato dal Comune di Carbonera (TV) dove risiedo per ottenere ulteriori informazioni su questo progetto di viaggio. Così dopo aver fatto un incontro illustrativo con alcuni componenti della giunta comunale, mi hanno proposto di ufficializzare il viaggio mediante una conferenza stampa dove potrò presentare il progetto.

La conferenza stampa è stata fissata per giovedì 25 marzo alle ore 11.00 in municipio a Carbonera (TV) ossia qui. Ci sarò io con Scooty, alcune cariche comunali e qualche giornalista. Tenterò anche di filmare l’evento e dopo, se ci riuscirò, lo metto su Youtube.

Passando al faceto: sabato ho fatto un giro di prova con un carico di circa 15 kg. Lo scooter si è comportato ottimamente in linea generale, però ieri ho avvistato che il problema dell’ammortizzatore che sfrega la ruota, già presentatosi in Ucraina si è rifatto vivo. Ho sostituito l’ammortizzatore con un altro usato e messo degli spessori nella parte esterna dell’attacco inferiore in modo da distanziare il piu possibile l’ammortizzatore dalla ruota. Oggi l’ho riprovato ed andava alla grande, senza toccare minimamente.

Ho poi convertito la staffa per il supporto porta tanica a dx in un altro attacco dove sistemerò una seconda valigia laterale E21. Questo poichè fino alla Turchia la benzina accessoria non dovrebbe servirmi e, se allora il bisogno dovesse presentarsi, acquisterò un tanica lì (o cercherò un cammello moderno…).

Lunedi mi è arrivata la fotocamera digitale Lumix DMC-TZ6 che userò per eseguire auto-ritratti miei in tutto le parti del mondo: lo capite voi perchè la gente va in giro per il mondo per poi fotografare il proprio viso in super primo piano? Mah…comunque lo farò anch’io, nel caso vi dimenticaste di me…

A week ago I have contacted by the major of Carbonera, which happened to see my project on Facebook. He was very curious of what I was going to do, so we arranged a meeting so i explained to him and some other members of the council the trip and its finality. They liked the spontaineity and the freedom of the project so they offered me to make it public in a more formal way, so by doing a press conference.

The press conference has been scheduled for Thursday 25th of March at 11.00 in Carbonera Town hall (TV) here. I will be partecipating (if I do not decide at the last minute to send my mum…),  Scooty, some political figures and some journalist. I hope to get somebody to film the conference so afterwards I will put it on Yoututbe.

Moving on to other trivial details: saturday I went for a trial trip with 15 Kg loaded in the cases and the scooter performed very well but…yesterday i noticed that due to the load added the shock absorber scraped on the side of  the wheel, as it did when I was in Ukraine some months ago.

So shock absorber OUT for a new one and by fiddling on it for a while I managed to increase the distance between the wheel and the s.a. What also caused this accident to happen is the fact that the wheel manufactured in China has different dimensions from thos stamped on.

Then I have converted the side tank-carrier in another support for a second lateral case E21. This because until Turkey I won’t need spare fuel with me hypothetically and then onwards if the need arises, I would buy a tank and keep it somewhere (or buy a modern camel…).

I have received the photocamera Lumix DMC-TZ6, which I will use to take self-portraits around the worls: do you understand why people travel thhe world to then snap their own face with a prime zoom? Anyway, I will do that, just in case you forget me how I look like…

Continua la preparazione del viaggio: Scooty è dal meccanico per una revisione completa della trasmissione, ed io sto aspettando che mi arrivi la fidejussione dalla banca così da poter avviare le pratiche all’ACI per il Carnet de Passage, documento necessario per far entrare un veicolo in alcuni stati. Questo documento mi vincolerà ad un altro punto: Scooty deve tornare indietro in Italia! Quindi preparate botti e lazzi per il suo ritorno, dimagrito e consunto…

Per ciò che riguarda me, c’è grande fervento a casa Torresan, ma mancono tutti i giornalisti che ho invitato almeno a mangiare a sbafo così, siori e siore, (riproduci rullata di tamburi), ho importato Chris Menzel, in veste di consulente d’animo/anima pre-trip.

Per il resto gran parte del lavoro è stato fatto, ora sto solo eseguendo lavoro di comunicazione e propaganda dalle verande delle piazze di provincia. A breve posterò un video con l’equipaggiamento che avrò in dote, una breve descrizione dell’itinerario, le pratiche burocratiche da fare per compiere un viaggio extra-UE via terra, sviluppi, progetti di matrimonio, preventivi di casse funebri e tanti altri gadget che possono servire a tutti.

Anyway, the preparation of the trip is still ongoing and because I don’t see that my house is bustling with journalists from respected media I got down instead…(sing some drum rolls in your head): Chris Martin Menzel, with the important role of being a soul advisor. Scooty is in the hands of  some guy for its complete tuning, especially the transmission has to be checked carefully (for who does not know, I plan to do the longest wheelie on a winding road…).

I am also awaiting the bank guarantee to start the paperwork for the Carnet de Passage, document required to enter some countried with a foreign vehicle. That also obliges me to bring Scooty back to Italy, therefore buy the best fireworks and fire-throwers for the event.

Regarding myself, I have done the majority of the burocracy and now I commenced the communication, advertisement and self-event PR job: I am also holding speeches from balconies from time to time…

Soon I will post something useful for wannabe followers or simply for somebody who is planning to do similar trips or anyway go with a vehicle outside of the EU (feel free to contact me via the contact form for specific questions). I will also include the equipment I wiil take with me, the burocracy needed, further developments, a guide how to plan a wedding specific for lonely women and finally for peace of mind the quote of some coffins and other gadgets which you may require…

Prefazione

Ho finalmente trovato il tempo per rendere pubblico il mio prossimo tour scooteristico Scooter Trip III 2010 Treviso (I) -> Asia. Data la dimensione prevista del viaggio, ho pensato bene di tenere un blog online in modo che famigliari, cugini, amici, nemici, funzionari religiosi, cariche dello stato e più semplicemente, voyeur, possano sapere come trascorro il mio tempo durante questo lungo viaggio.
E’ inoltre un continuum che voglio dare ai diari che feci durante i viaggi passati e che si è rivelato un metodo ottimo per ricordare a distanza di anni le varie peripezie compiute.

Il blog lo spaccerò come bilingue cioè ipoteticamente conterrà articoli o in italiano o in inglese però penso che per la maggior parte mi affiderò alla lingua madre.

Corpo

Generalità

Questo viaggio che iniziai a concepire nella mia mente sotto una forma primordiale nel lontano 2005 in quel di Brighton. Per 2 cause di forza maggiore, il viaggio doveva venir posticipato:

1) non prima del 2008, causa studi accademici
2) scaduto il vincolo 1), esisteva ancora un ostacolo consistente nel non possedimento di risorse economiche adeguate.

A 5 anni di distanza da quando iniziai a progettare questa escursione scooteristica prolungata, la data di partenza è ora stata fissata al 28 marzo 2010.

Il viaggio avrà una durata incognita, maggiormente variante a dipesa di un paio di criteri fondamentali:
- le finanze: una volte finite, potrebbe essere che daro diverso uso al passamontagna che ho. Altrimenti piangente ritorno a casa.
- la voglia: se questa manca, manca il requisito base.
- la salute: se questa manca un po, non si muore; se questa manca tanto, forse si.
- la salute dei militanti Torresan dislocati a Treviso.

La salute di Scooty è importante ma non fondamentale.

Sentiero

L’itinerario reale in anticipo sicuramente non esiste. L’itinerario pressapochistico è invece molto concreto: ho stilato una lista di stati attraverso il quale compierò la traversata, però come mi muoverò precisamente all’interno di questi lo valuterò quando sarò in loco ed avrò ottenuto informazioni da gente locale e consigli raccolti in precedenza.

Quindi partendo da Treviso entrerò in Slovenia, per poi proseguire nei Balcani centrali, quindi Croazia dove vorrò passare per Vukovar simbolo recente di una guerra invasiva nonchè ultimo eremo di resistenza croata. Da li penso che entrerò in Serbia e dopo essere passato per la capitale Belgrado, punterò ai Carpazi della Romania centrale che l’estate scorsa di poco avevo mancato. Poi scenderò in Bulgaria dove vorrò lambire anche il Mar Nero e magari farci una nuotatina primaverile. Sarà poi il turno della Grecia settentrionale quindi eviterò la parte sud della penisola ellenica e anche la parte insulare, facilmente raggiungibile in un altro momento, che invece in questo caso potrebbe avere un notevole impatto economico.
Sarà poi il turno della Turchia e quindi d’Istanbul, punto di separazione tra l’Europa e l’Asia. Qui mi recherò verso l’Antalia e poi verso la capitale della Georgia, Tbilisi. Qui incontrerò degli amici con il quale visiterò il Caucaso, cioè Armenia, la Georgia stessa e l’Azerbaijian.
Poichè un veicolo estero in Azerbaijian può muoversi per massimo 3 giorni, lo parcheggerò al porto di Baku il prima possibile dopodichè faro escursioni nelle vicinanze con altri mezzi.

Da Baku prenderò il traghetto verso Aktau in Kazahkstan. Nello stato kazako passerò un bel po’ di tempo viste le notevoli dimensioni dell’ex “serra agricola russa” è anche perchè il fatto che sia inesplorato lo rende più appetibile. Dopo sarà la volta del Kirghizistan, con il suo patrimonio ambientale e culturale molto simile a quello mongolo. Da lì farò marcia indietro per un pochettino per visitare l’Uzbekistan e le sue città simbolo come Samarcanda e Bukkara. Dushanbe in Tajikistan probabilmente firmerò la fine del mio girovagare in scooter vista la difficoltà di entrare in Cina con un mezzo straniero.

Dopo inizierà forse la fase 2 di questo viaggio ma ora è troppo presto per svelarla.

Fido

Come nel passato il compagno di avventure unico e trino sarà il mezzo, ossia il mio vecchio consunto scooter giallognolo, Scooty.
E’ stato per l’occasione restaurato, migliorato ed ha pure subito delle modifiche per permettermi di compiere questo viaggio con maggiore comfort e renderlo più mulo possibile e poterci caricare sopra attrezzatura.

Il ducato

Il discorso è: nessuno sponsor, nessun vincolo. Ciò sicuramente penalizza quella che è la durata del viaggio restrigendo le fonti di attingimento però nella vita si scende spesso a compromessi. A me ora non interessa farne, tantomeno possedere vincoli, perciò voglio che le risposte a qualsiasi scelta compierò siano rivolte solo a me.

Ho comunque qualcuno da ringraziare a priori: la famiglia per gli oneri ed onori, gli amici, John Nencini per il web hosting e l’avermi fatto viaggiare quando non potevo. Se non siete su questa lista significa che non avete pagato il mio scagnozzo…

Partirò domenica 28 marzo 2010 dalla chiesa dell’onerevole frazione di Pezzan di Carbonera di Treviso verso le 11.30 dove ne approfitterò per fare un bagno di fedeli ed inumidirmi nell’acqua santa che Trapattoni indica essere propizia.

Se volete passare a darmi un saluto siete i benvenuti.

Note importanti: cara, non tornerò a casa per cena.

GENESIS

Preamble

I finally found the time to make public Scooter Trip 2010 III Treviso (I) -> Asia.
Considering the length of the trip, I thought that having a blog online is the best way to keep family members, cousins, friends, fiends, clergymen, political figures and more simply, voyeur, aware of where I am and how I spend my time hopping here ad there.
It is also a continuum of the diaries I made in the previous scooter excursions which happened to be a very good method to record memories if I want to recall them in the future.

The blog will be bilingual Italian and English but I reckon most of the content will be published first-hand, so using my mothertongue (unless swearing occurs).

Body

General details

I began to plan this trip way back in time and I recently found an email in my laptop where I was asking information dated 2005. For two reasons the trip has been delayed so long:

1) Departure could not take place before 2008, as I was enrolled in the university
2) When art.1) was not applying, I still had to gather together some financial means.

5 years later after, the departure date has been fixed and it is the 28th March 2010.

The trip will have an unknown length, which depends entirely on the constraints below:

- Finances: when those are finished I might find another use for the balaclava I carry with me. Or simply come back home crying.
- Enthusiasm: if that lacks, the basic requirement is missing.
- Health: some virus are funny for a while. Some others kill eg. Not funny.
- Health of the Torresan comrades located in Treviso.

The “health” of Scooty is important but not vital.

Path

The fixed itinerary does not exist at this stage. The alleged itinerary is instead very much defined: I listed the countries I will pass through but I can’t say how I will move inside these countries: this will be decided accordingly to advices received by fellow travelers, old people (they never fail) and current atmospheric/political situations.

So starting from Treviso I will enter Slovenia and then the central Balcans, therefore Croatia where I want to visit the city of Vukovar, symbol of the Croatian resistence during the last war. Then I will move on to capital of Serbia, Belgrade, try out some Slivovice and then the Carphatians in the centre of Romania, which I missed last summer.
I will then travel along the coast of the Black Sea in Bulgaria to dive in a bit and make it a chance to have a first shower…
Then I will visit only the Northern part of Greece without going into peninsular and insular part of the country as I can easily visit that thoroughly another time.
Moving forward to take a break from Europe and enjoy the mixed continetal breeze of Istanbul, then Antalya and then rejoin Europe in the Caucasus. In Tbilisi I will meet a bunch of friends to travel Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan.
From the azeri capital, Baku, I will take a ferry to cross the Caspian sea with direction Aktau in Kazahkstan. In this country I will spend quite a while as the size and its remoteness do not allow otherwise. I am also interested in this unexplored country that was for so long considered the Russian greenhouse.
I will then enter Kyrgyzstan, with its cultural and environmental heritage, similar to the Mongolian one. I will then drive towards West for a bit to visit Uzbekistan and its famous cities Samarqand and Bukkara. Dushanbe in Tajikistan will probably be my final stop considering the difficulties to enter China with a foreign vehicle.

Then maybe phase 2 of this trip will begin but now it is too early to reveal it.

Rocinante

As in the past my fixed companion is Scooty, my worn-out yellowish scooter.
For this occasion it has been repaired, improved and modified to carry more stuff

The duchy

The object is simple: no sponsor, no constraints. This surely limits the length of the trip but so often we have to compromise our decisions. Now I have no interest in having any, therefore I want to be the only one I have direct answers to.
Anyway I have some people which deserve to be acknowledged: my family for the burden and the honor, my friends, John Nencini for the web hosting and for having let me travel when I couldn’t. If you are not on this list, then you haven’t paid my henchman…

Remuneration

I leave to learn, for the curiosity, to know myself better, to surprise me, to explore other cultures/cuisines, to stray, to lose the orientation and then find it again, to be continuously out of my habitat, to meet new people, to meet old people, to understand love…something more?

Closing credits

I leave Sunday 28th March 2010 from outside Pezzan church at 11.30, the honourable little crappy town where I lived most of my life. I will take the chance to crowd surf the pilgrims and take a bath in holy water.
